VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS 2023 ROSENTHAL - Cellar Reserve

 Location:

The Ahrweiler Rosenthal site is located directly opposite the old town of Ahrweiler. There are two theories about the name of the vineyard: on the one hand, the name could indicate a planting of wild roses, on the other hand, by deriving the word Runst = running water, it could refer to a spring formerly located there. The vineyard soil is stony loess loam and slate. The slope faces south.

Vinification:

The hand-picked and selected Pinot Noir grapes were fermented for 19 days in the mash tank. After that, the wine is stored for 18 months in 100% new French oak barriques.

The wine is unfiltered, so we recommend decanting.

Tasting notes:

Powerful, ripe fruit, pure, good structure, fine finish, wonderfully intense and concentrated, dense elegance, refined length.

Recommendation:

Thanks to its elegance, the Rosenthal offers an excellent harmony with pink roasted meat variations.

Special feature:

We are fortunate that our vineyards in Recher Herrenberg still contain ungrafted Pinot Noir plants that were planted before 1940. These self-propagated plants are naturally not selected, have small and loose berries. We have been propagating this high-quality genetic material for several years, and the vineyard in Ahrweiler Rosenthal is planted with it.
