VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS 2023 MÖNCHBERG limited & numbered
Location:
The steep terraces, almost carved into the rock here, significantly shape the landscape in this location. The valley in this wildly romantic basin is 2000 m wide. The forest above the vineyards protects the vines from cold air intrusions. The soils, rocks, and vineyard walls made of dark slate and greywacke store the sun's warmth. At night, they release it back to the vines. The result of this natural underfloor heating with a night storage effect is a Mediterranean microclimate. The location is characterized by stony to slightly loamy slate weathered soils. The name Mönchberg can be traced back to former monastic property of the Augustinian Abbey of Klosterrath near Aachen, which was founded in Mayschoß.
Vinification:
Intensive vineyard management throughout the year, low yields, and consistent hand-selection of grapes create the basis for high wine quality. This is followed by gentle grape and must processing and then traditional winemaking.
Tasting Notes:
Fruit-driven, intense, fine aroma, wonderfully ripe fruit. It delights with crystal-clear, juicy notes of citrus fruits and crisp apple. Typical for Riesling are its freshness and distinct minerality.
