VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS 2023 KRÄUTERGERG

Location:

The Walporzheim Kräuterberg is one of the original sites in the Ahr Valley. It lies in the foothills of the narrow, rugged rock landscape just outside the town of Ahrweiler. Due to its south-eastern orientation and extremely steep slope, the small-terraced Kräuterberg is one of the preferred sites, benefiting from high solar radiation and a favorable microclimate. The soil is a skeleton-rich conglomerate of graywacke to slate weathered soils, partly interspersed with fine sandy loam. The Pinot Noir grape variety yields voluminous and elegant wines here, which retain a subtly herbaceous character due to the stony component of the soil.

Vinification:

The hand-picked and selected Pinot Noir grapes ferment for 17 days in the maceration tank. Malolactic fermentation takes place during barrel aging in French barriques. The Kräuterberg matures for approximately 18 months in 100% new barriques.

Unfiltered, decanting recommended.
